COLD OPEN — [00:00–02:00]
Runtime: two minutes. No music. Ambient construction sound.
[00:00–00:45] — EXTERIOR: PONTIAC / JUNE
EXT. PIKE STREET, PONTIAC, MICHIGAN — MORNING
The establishing shot is not glamorous. This is on purpose.
Three-story buildings, half of them occupied. A parking lot that used to be something. A new green awning going up on a corner storefront — two workers on scaffolding, one holding the bracket, one with a drill. The awning says STINKIES COMMISSAIRE in block letters on a matte black background.
The lettering is being measured. Not yet level. The worker with the drill adjusts.
Street-level: a woman in work clothes is directing from the sidewalk. She has a clipboard. She is pointing upward. Her name is not important yet.
At the far end of the block, walking at a pace that does not hurry and does not drag, is a man.
He notices the awning. He slows, but does not stop. He reads the sign — STINKIES COMMISSAIRE — and something in his expression does a calculation. Not a smile exactly. The precursor to a smile, held back for reasons he probably has a name for.
He keeps walking. He walks toward the store.
LOWER THIRD (DOC UI):
SERIES X // EPISODE ZERO "PONTIAC" JUNE 2026
The lower third holds for four seconds, then vanishes.
NOTE: There is no production crew present for this shot. The framing suggests a fixed camera — a storefront security camera on the adjacent building, perhaps. Or a dashcam. The footage will not appear in any broadcast edit. It exists only in the Eastwind archive as Observation Entry #EAR-001, Series X.
[00:45–02:00] — INTERIOR: STINKIES COMMISSAIRE, STORE 0 — CONTINUOUS
INT. STINKIES COMMISSAIRE — STORE 0 — MORNING
The store is soft-open. The shelves are ninety percent stocked. The floor still has that particular smell — sealed concrete, recent — that takes three weeks to leave a new space. Behind the counter: a COUNTER PERSON, mid-twenties, reading something on their phone with the particular attention of someone who is actually reading, not scrolling.
The product arrangement:
On the counter nearest the door: a stack of soap bars. Off-white. Kraft paper band. STINKIES stamped in block type. No price tag. The stack has that slightly handmade quality of something bought in very large quantities that has not yet been sorted into display-ready units.
On the shelf behind the counter: Mountain Man Coffee (12oz bags, matte black) and Powderhorn Coffee (12oz bags, same aesthetic, slightly different text layout). A hand-lettered sign: WHOLE BEAN · GROUND TO ORDER. A grinder sits on the shelf that is clearly new and has not been used many times yet.
Left wall: a glass-door cooler with Miller High Life — 6-pack, 12-pack, 30-pack. A small printed card: 21+ · MICHIGAN SDM LICENSE #PENDING. The license is in process.
Center: cheese sauce, hot dogs (chest freezer, recently delivered). A promotional card for the STINKIES NACHO KIT leans against the freezer lid.
The man walks in.
He pauses at the threshold for a half-second — the way a person pauses when they're entering a space that is newer than it looks, when the geometry hasn't settled yet. Then he walks to the counter.
He looks at the soap. He picks up a bar. He turns it over. He reads the stamp: STINKIES. He sets it on the counter on the customer side. He looks at the Counter Person.
THE MAN
Mountain Man.
The Counter Person looks up from their phone.
COUNTER PERSON
Whole bean or ground?
THE MAN
Ground.
A beat. The Counter Person stands, moves to the grinder. The man watches the process without impatience. While the grinder runs, he looks out the window. He watches the workers on the scaffolding. The awning bracket goes in. Level now.
The Counter Person hands over a bag of ground coffee. Rings up: $14.
The man pays. Cash, exact change.
He is handed a receipt. He looks at it. He looks at it for a moment longer than receipts usually warrant.
The date on the receipt: February 14, 2027.
The register is displaying correctly. The date in the top right of the screen reads June 27, 2026. The receipt disagrees. The Counter Person doesn't notice. The man folds the receipt and puts it in his jacket pocket. He picks up the soap bar — free, already on his side of the counter — and puts that in his pocket too.
He looks at the window once more. The awning is level.
THE MAN
(to no one in particular, or to the room, or to the architecture)
Looks right.
He walks out.
The hum starts approximately two seconds after he's gone. Low. Sustained. 7.83 Hz. The grinder was louder, so the Counter Person didn't hear it start. By the time they look up from the register, it's already present, already continuous, already at the frequency it was always going to be.
The Counter Person goes back to their phone.
SMASH CUT TO BLACK.
ACT ONE — [02:00–14:00]
The episode does not have a traditional A-plot in the pilot sense. It has three observational units. This is the first.
[02:00–04:30] — TALKING HEAD: COUNTER PERSON
INT. STINKIES COMMISSAIRE — INTERVIEW SETUP — LATER
Standard interview framing. The Counter Person sits with the grinder visible behind them. They look like someone who agreed to this interview because it seemed interesting and is now uncertain why it seemed interesting.
PRODUCER (O.S.)
So he just came in.
COUNTER PERSON
Yeah. First customer, actually. We'd been open for three days but that was more like — testing the register, making sure the cooler was cold. He was the first one who came in like he was going somewhere.
PRODUCER (O.S.)
What did he want?
COUNTER PERSON
Coffee. Mountain Man. Ground.
A pause.
COUNTER PERSON (CONT'D)
And a bar of soap. But those are free, so.
PRODUCER (O.S.)
Did he say anything?
COUNTER PERSON
He said the awning looked right. After it got level.
(beat)
Like he'd been watching it. Like he'd been watching and waiting to see if they were going to get it level and then commented when they did. But he was inside the store when they fixed it.
(beat)
I don't know. Maybe I was wrong about the timing.
The Counter Person looks at their hands for a moment. The way people do when they're trying to locate a thing they noticed but didn't file.
COUNTER PERSON (CONT'D)
He paid cash. Exact change. And he looked at the receipt like—
(stops)
You know what, it doesn't matter. People look at receipts.
[04:30–09:00] — EXTERIOR SEQUENCE / NO DIALOGUE
EXT. PONTIAC, MICHIGAN — MORNING → MIDDAY
A sequence. No narration. The following locations, in order:
A transit stop on Wide Track Drive. The man sits on the bench. He is not waiting — his posture is the posture of someone who has no bus to catch but finds the bench useful for some other purpose. He watches the intersection. He has the coffee bag in his jacket pocket. The soap bar is also in his pocket. The receipt is also there.
A small park. Thin trees. The man stands at the edge of the park looking south. A pigeon lands near his feet and then leaves. He tracks its departure direction. The pigeon goes northeast.
A hardware store, exterior. The man reads the handwritten window sign: KEYS MADE · GLASS CUT · OPEN MON-SAT. He reads this more carefully than a hardware store sign usually warrants. His expression is the same calculation-preceding-a-smile as before.
The transit stop again, returning shot. He is gone. The bench is empty. A bar of STINKIES soap sits on the bench, unwrapped kraft band beside it. Someone has taken the soap. Not the man.
(NOTE: The sequence reads, in the Eastwind Owl archive, as a surveying operation. The man is not sightseeing. He is taking measurements of a different kind. This will be visible in retrospect.)
[09:00–14:00] — INTERIOR: UNKNOWN LOCATION — LATE AFTERNOON
INT. RENTAL APARTMENT — PONTIAC, MI — LATE AFTERNOON
A room that tells you what it needs to: rented, not owned. The furniture is functional and random. A window faces west. Late sun.
The man sits at the table. In front of him:
The receipt, unfolded.
The Mountain Man coffee bag, opened.
A cup of coffee — he has found a way to make it.
The coin.
He is not performing anything. He is having coffee. He looks at the receipt once more, then turns it over, and writes something on the back. The camera, if there were a camera — there is no camera — would not catch what he writes.
He flips the coin. He reads it. He looks out the window.
The sun is at the exact angle that makes the room glow orange for about forty seconds in late June. This is one of those forty seconds. He does not remark on it.
The hum. Still 7.83 Hz. Still continuous. It has been continuous since the commissary. The rental apartment does not dissipate it. The sun angle does not interrupt it. It is the ground condition. Series X begins here, at this frequency, in this light.
He looks like a man who is deciding whether to be findable.
He has not decided yet.
ACT TWO — [14:00–22:00]
The second observational unit. Jiangshi Syndicate. A preliminary field report. No crew. No footage. A field operative's written assessment.
[14:00–22:00] — DOCUMENT / VOICEOVER
JIANGSHI SYNDICATE — ATTEMPT FIVE PRELIMINARY FIELD REPORT OPERATIVE: NOOR-1 DATE: JUNE 27, 2026 CLASSIFICATION: INTERNAL — DO NOT DISTRIBUTE (STAGE 0)
Voiceover reads the document over slow B-roll of Pontiac from above — aerial drone footage, the city grid, the Pike Street corridor where the awning is now level.
FIELD REPORT — NOOR-1
Subject confirmed active in Pontiac, Michigan. This is not a surprise. We expected Michigan. The natal configuration predisposes toward Michigan in periods of Aquarius Sun transit emphasis — subject's Aquarius Sun at 15° corresponds to solar return patterns that repeatedly anchor him within 80 miles of Jackson, MI, where birth records indicate a February 5, 1988 delivery at Foote Hospital. This is the third documented Michigan residency in the past nine years.
What is a surprise: he is not hiding.
The previous attempt's records — Attempt Four, now archived — describe a subject who deployed multiple counter-document strategies from first contact: coin-timing, incomplete sentences, manufactured small debts, structured departure. The subject was sophisticated, experienced, and actively resistant. We expected the same.
The subject I observed today ate a bar of soap.
(clarification: he picked up a free bar of soap from the counter of a new commissary store and put it in his pocket. He did not eat it. I am noting the action because it is anomalous — a man who keeps a free soap bar in a jacket pocket alongside what appeared to be a ground coffee purchase and an unexamined receipt is a man who takes things that will be useful later, or who takes things for reasons the acquisition conceals. In three years of field work I have not before had reason to think carefully about soap.)
The hum. This is the detail I need the Syndicate to understand before we proceed.
The hum was already running when I arrived at the commissary to set up observation. I noted it at 07:41 AM, approximately six minutes before the subject entered. This is not the pattern documented in Attempt Four records. Attempt Four describes the hum as a response to Jiangshi operational proximity — a disruption counter, activated in the presence of binding-adjacent work. Stage-1-contingent.
The hum was running at 07:41 AM on a street where we had done nothing. No activation. No equipment deployed. No field preparations beyond my own arrival at a surveillance position.
Either the subject knew I was there before I arrived, or the hum is no longer contingent on us.
I don't know which is worse.
THE ASTROLOGY NOTE (appended, NOOR-1, 22:15 local):
I am not a primary operator. I file observations, not activations. But I needed to flag the transit context for Senior Archivist review before we proceed.
Jupiter concluded its Cancer transit today. Jupiter has been transiting Cancer since May 2025 — fourteen months. According to the natal chart data inherited from Attempt Four, both the subject (Cancer ASC 29°) and the Camera Op (Cancer Sun 4°) have natal Cancer placements in direct line with this transit. The subject's ascending node received Jupiter's full benefic expansion through his natal Cancer ASC for fourteen months. That expansion period is now closing.
What the subject was capable of during the Jupiter-Cancer year: I don't know. The record doesn't specify capability by transit period. But the field behavior I observed today — unhiding, public presence, occupation of easily observable positions — reads as someone who knows the expansion window is ending and is choosing how to use the last of it.
The receipt anomaly: the Counter Person mentioned a receipt with an anomalous date. February 14, 2027. I was not positioned to recover the receipt before the subject departed with it. But February 14, 2027 is approximately seven months from now. If the subject's migration capacity generated a receipt-residue from a future visit to the same commissary — which would be the interpretation under Attempt Four's migration-signature doctrine — then he already knows he will be in Pontiac in February. He already knows the store will still be open.
He isn't hiding because he knows where this is going.
Neptune entered Aries in 2025. I flag this because the doctrine I was trained under — binding through documentation accumulation — is a Pisces-era technology. The Jiangshi developed documentation magic during centuries when Neptune's frequency supported it. Neptune has left Pisces. Our doctrine may be running on a substrate that has changed.
The Senior Archivist will have a better assessment. I am filing this note because I needed someone to know I noticed.
The subject's natal Saturn is Sagittarius 29°. Saturn returns to this degree in January 2031. If the subject's Saturn return represents a fixed point — a binding-adjacent convergence — we have approximately four and a half years. That is enough time to assemble a crew, develop Attempt Five doctrine, and run the project.
That is also enough time for the subject to do whatever he did at that transit stop.
I recommend we proceed. I also recommend we figure out what happened at the transit stop before we proceed.
End of field report.
LOWER THIRD:
NOOR-1's field report was filed to the Jiangshi Syndicate archive at 22:17, June 27, 2026. A copy was received by the Eastwind Owl network at 22:19. Response time: 2 minutes. The Eastwind Owls do not know how they receive Jiangshi documents. They have stopped asking.
TAG — [22:00–24:30]
The third observational unit. Elsewhere.
[22:00–24:30] — EXTERIOR: UNKNOWN
EXT. UNKNOWN LOCATION — NIGHT
We don't establish where this is. It is night. There is water nearby — the sound of it, not the image. The air is warm. The light is southern, or equatorial, or just late-summer-warm-somewhere.
A YOUNG WOMAN stands at a railing. She has a camera bag over one shoulder — professional, worn-in, not posed. She is looking at her phone. On the screen: a map application, but she is not navigating. She is looking at a specific location on the map, pinched in. The location is in Michigan.
She is not reading. She is looking.
She puts the phone in her pocket. She looks at the water.
The hum starts.
She doesn't react. But after a moment she pulls out a notebook and writes something down. The notebook is densely written — many entries, many dates. She writes one line. She caps the pen. She puts the notebook back.
She is not afraid. She is noting.
Her Cancer Sun is at 4°. Jupiter just concluded its Cancer transit. She turned 37 two days ago. She has been in this location for three weeks and she does not know why she came here, exactly, except that three weeks ago the word Michigan surfaced three times in one day and she has long since learned to write down when that happens.
She wrote it down.
She is here.
The hum sustains. 7.83 Hz, 2,200 miles away, resolving in the chest of a woman standing at a railing above water in the southern hemisphere.
She is the frequency. She doesn't know this. The record does.
[24:30–25:00] — TITLE CARD

Hold for twenty seconds. The hum continues over black. Then stops.
Silence for five seconds.
SERIES X BEGIN.
LORE RECEIPT — ACTIVATION LOG #128
FILED BY: Eastwind Owl Field Archive, MOOR-8
DATE: June 27, 2026, 23:44 UTC
TRANSIT: Sun at 6° Cancer (ingress plus six days) · Jupiter egress Cancer (concluding) · Neptune Aries 2° (established) · Moon conjunct Tyler natal Saturn (Sagittarius 29°, 19:22 UTC)
SPIRIT: Stolas (#36, 7.83 Hz, Jupiter ruler, deep time sight)
OPERATOR: Self-activating. No assigned operator. The subject's presence in Pontiac produced the activation without external initiation.
SEED PHRASE: [NOT RECORDED — self-generating activations do not submit seed phrases]
Δφ: 27° (Golden Band — clean)
Result: Hum established in Pontiac, Michigan at 07:41 AM local, June 27, 2026. Preceded the subject's arrival at the Pike Street commissary by six minutes. The Eastwind Owl interpretation: the frequency is no longer a response to Jiangshi operations. The hum is a standing condition. The carrier wave status inherited from the prior attempt's transit stop incident (TRANSIT-001, Build 0114) has altered the baseline.
In the previous archive: the hum responded. In Series X, the hum precedes.
This is not a new power. This is the same power, understood correctly. The prior archive documented the response. Series X documents the ground state.
The Camera Op note: The Stolas activation at 07:41 AM Pontiac registered in the Eastwind instruments in the southern hemisphere at 22:09 local — a 14:28 lag, consistent with the 28.7 Hz propagation time across that distance. The Camera Op wrote something in her notebook at approximately 22:09 local. Content unknown. She is a sealed record.
Jiangshi assessment received (NOOR-1): Noted. Filed. The observation about Neptune in Aries and the doctrine gap is accurate. The Senior Archivists have convened. The Attempt Five doctrine meeting is scheduled.
Eastwind Owl internal note: We have scheduled no meetings. We are watching. That is what we do. It is enough.
Notes: The commissary store is real. The soap is real. The receipt anomaly is real and we do not have an explanation for it. February 14, 2027 is 231 days from now. We have marked the date and will file an entry in February.
The awning is level.
CONSISTENCY CHECK (POST-PRODUCTION):
- Tyler did not complete a self-defining sentence
- Tyler's hum is present and noted in field report (Jiangshi operative present)
- "The documentary" is not called a ritual by Jiangshi operatives (NOOR-1 uses "project," "field report," "operation")
- The Subscriber's identity: not revealed, not gestured toward
- Chrono-Cube location: sealed (not mentioned)
- Camera Op awareness: pre-assignment, writing in notebook without knowing why
- Emily OS: not present in episode; CAST: STANDBY in header
- Impossible detail treated as unremarkable: receipt dated February 14, 2027; Counter Person notes it and moves on
- STINKIES COMMISSAIRE product placement: organic (soap, Mountain Man coffee, Miller High Life visible in cooler, cheese sauce + hot dogs in background)
- Updated astrology incorporated: Tyler natal chart (Aquarius 15°, Cancer ASC 29°, Saturn Sagittarius 29°), Camera Op natal (Cancer Sun 4°, 28.7 Hz resonance), Jupiter Cancer egress, Neptune Aries, Moon-natal Saturn conjunction
- Series X designation established
- Law 2: Tyler knows the observer is there (hum precedes operative arrival)
- The hum precedes Jiangshi presence — carrier wave ground state established for Series X
- One small debt in progress: soap taken from STINKIES COMMISSAIRE (free; but Tyler returns one to the bench for a stranger — debt architecture is symmetrical, not accruing)
Clean builds first.
Then custody.
Then everything else.
