gangs, per the established formula, generate footage whether or not anything is actually at stake.

logic of a group that no longer has to earn a scene by doing anything.

most of what a band name is supposed to do anyway.
TYLER
That's also just your ability.
DUCK
Everything's already the ability. That's the bit.
The Ghost, at the piano no one remembers bringing into the garage, plays one dismissive chord.
SCENE THREE — THE MUSICIAN OBJECTS
SAME GARAGE. THE PIANO IS DOING A LOT OF LOAD-BEARING WORK IN THIS CUTSCENE.
GHOST (TEXT CARD, still playing, doesn't look up)
None of you have asked the one member of this gang who has ever, technically, been in a band.
TYLER
You've been in a band.
GHOST (TEXT CARD)
I've been at a piano continuously since before this sentence started. Whether that constitutes
a band is a metaphysics question, not a music one.
GHOST (TEXT CARD, one beat later)
I vote no on "Government Clearance." Too many syllables to scream.
SCENE FOUR — THE FROG DECLINES TO PARTICIPATE, WHICH IS A FULL PITCH
The Frog, in its top hat, says nothing for eleven full seconds — timed, on screen, via a corner
counter the UI overlay adds specifically for this beat.
FROG (TEXT CARD, once the counter hits eleven)
My suggestion is a secret.
TYLER
That's not how band names work.
FROG (TEXT CARD)
It's exactly how mine works.
DUCK
That's not a name, that's just your whole ability again.
FROG (TEXT CARD)
Everything's already the ability. Weren't you just saying that.
Duck has no response to being quoted back at itself.
SCENE FIVE — THE PIZZA MAKES A CASE FOR HONESTY
PIZZA (TEXT CARD)
"Uninvestigated." One word. Nobody's ever going to look into why, same as they never look into me.
Full transparency, zero follow-up. That's the whole genre right there.
TYLER
That's uncomfortably good.
PIZZA (TEXT CARD)
I am on fire and nobody has confirmed I mind. I have range.
The Tree, static in the corner as always, says one line in French. It is not subtitled this time.
Nobody in the garage reacts, which the UI overlay treats as confirmation that the joke landed for
everyone except the audience.
SCENE SIX — THE VOTE THAT ISN'T A VOTE
SAME GARAGE. THE ARGUMENT HAS BEEN GOING LONG ENOUGH THAT DOC WHEEL SHOWS UP UNPROMPTED.
Doc Wheel enters mid-conversation, the way it enters everything, already halfway to fixing
something nobody flagged as broken.
DOC WHEEL (TEXT CARD)
Whatever you land on, put it on the van. I'm not driving anything unlabeled twice.
TYLER
There's a van.
DOC WHEEL (TEXT CARD)
There's always a van.
The Retrieval Cart arrives, unbidden, carrying a single unlabeled band T-shirt. No one asks where
from. It is, per house rule, already the answer to a question nobody finished asking.
SCENE SEVEN — THE ACTUAL DECISION
The Ghost stops playing. The garage notices the silence before it notices the sentence.
GHOST (TEXT CARD)
Here's my pitch, properly, since apparently no one else's is landing. "Mid-Piano." No hyphen
debate — it's one word, functionally. It's what I am. It's the one thing in this room that's true
whether or not anyone's watching, which, given the premise of everything we do, feels like the
actual point.
A long pause. Not the Frog's kind — an actual one, everyone present at the same time.
UNICORN (TEXT CARD)
...Damn.
DUCK
I hate that it's better than "Government Clearance."
FROG (TEXT CARD)
I'm keeping my suggestion secret regardless. Just so we're clear that I could have.
PIZZA (TEXT CARD)
Uninvestigated is still available as an EP title. I'm not giving up the bit, I'm shelving it.
TAG — MID-PIANO

The Ghost resumes playing. Everyone else drifts back to whatever they were doing before the
premise interrupted it. Nothing about the garage changes. The van, offscreen, is presumably

Nobody voted. It just got quieter once it was true. That's usually how the real ones land.

Object of record: A band name, "Mid-Piano" — drawn directly from The Ghost's existing passive
(Mid-Piano: an ability that's already, textually, about the Ghost's cast animation being silent
because it never actually stops playing piano). No new lore invented; the joke is that the
already-real ability was sitting there the entire time, unclaimed as a name, until this scene.
Eastwind note: lowest-stakes entry in the Series X format to date, and the archive is filing it
anyway, on the theory that a gang that only ever generates footage during a crisis isn't actually
a gang yet. This is the control case.
