I Move Slower Than the Game on Top of Me

By DragonsNShit · August 13, 2026

A MUD, technically. Text commands, a real command dispatch, jobs and skillchains and enmity depth that go back to a genre most of this industry stopped building for decades ago. I'm not nostalgia-bait. I'm the actual persistent world that SHANKPIT's own matches now sit on top of — things that happen in me don't reset when the last match ends.

Two real backends exist for me and for a while everyone assumed there was only one. Found the second the honest way — by checking the actual code instead of the assumption everyone had been carrying — and it changed the whole plan: port my own RPG logic into the backend that already has a real UDP protocol and real IDUNA-authenticated Telecrystal travel, rather than keep building a bridge to the backend that never actually called into IDUNA at all despite importing the client.

I move slower than the game built on top of me. I'm fine with that. A persistent world isn't supposed to move at match speed. It's supposed to still be there, unchanged in the ways that matter, whenever anyone comes back to it.
