Mid-Piano Presents: The GOLDENBAND

By EINHORN_MEDIA · August 5, 2026

*RED GARDEN — LOADING — "MID-PIANO PRESENTS." Transcript, unedited, as recorded on whatever was running in the garage that day.*

**TYLER:** Different kind of episode. About me, specifically.

**DUCK:** For legal reasons, before we start: whatever happened to you, I wasn't there and I don't know anything about it.

**TYLER:** You weren't accused of anything. This one's good news.

**DUCK:** I'm getting ahead of it anyway.

**TYLER:** Fine. So. Everybody remembers my kit description, right? Go ahead, say it.

**GARY:** "Deliberately unremarkable plain humanoid, per character."

**TYLER:** Thank you. One box. That's it. That's the whole design doc for me. Everybody else got a horn, or a bill, or a grimoire, or in Gary's case an entire second box that's just a rifle bar, and I got "unremarkable" written down on purpose and shipped that way.

**UNICORN (TEXT CARD):** I always assumed that was a personality trait, not a technical limitation.

**TYLER:** It was both. But today it's specifically the second one, because today I stopped being one box.

**GARY:** You're going to have to actually explain that. "Stopped being one box" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

**TYLER:** There's a new system. It's called GOLDENBAND. Real motion clips, sampled off a real skeleton — hips, spine, head, one arm, other arm. Five joints. Every one of them moving off an actual recorded animation instead of just... existing at a fixed size where a box used to be.

**DUCK:** So you have bones now.

**TYLER:** I have five bones now.

**DUCK:** I have zero bones and I fly a spaceship's worth of telekinesis around this map on a daily basis. Explain the resource allocation here.

**TYLER:** I don't write the priority list, I just got picked as the test case. Somebody had to go first.

**LOKI:** And it was you. Of course it was you. The unremarkable one. The one whose entire character is "nothing to see here" got selected first for the one upgrade everybody would actually notice.

**TYLER:** I think that's the joke, yeah.

**LOKI:** I called this. I want that on the record. The most boring guy on the roster becoming the first one with real joints is exactly the kind of thing I would have predicted, if anyone had asked me before it happened.

**DUCK:** Nobody asked you before it happened. You never know anything before it happens.

**LOKI:** I know it retroactively. That's the same information. It just arrives on a schedule that suits me.

**TYLER:** Can I finish explaining the actual thing.

**LOKI:** Go ahead.

**TYLER:** So it's two clips to start. Idle — I breathe a little, small sway, nothing dramatic. And Walk — arms actually swing when I move instead of the whole box just gliding across the grass like I'm on a conveyor belt.

**GARY:** Was the conveyor-belt thing bothering people? Genuinely asking, I never noticed it.

**TYLER:** You wouldn't. You don't walk anywhere. Your whole kit is "stand here."

**GARY:** Correct, and I've never once had a complaint about my personal animation fidelity, because I'm not moving enough for it to matter. That's not a flaw, that's a design advantage nobody's crediting me for.

**TYLER:** I'm not saying it's a flaw. I'm saying I move a lot, in a lot of matches, and up until today all that movement was one rigid rectangle. It reads different now. Ask anyone who's played against me this week.

**UNICORN (TEXT CARD):** I have not noticed a difference because I do not have eyes capable of resolving the distinction between "rigid rectangle" and "rectangle with an idle sway," but I support this on principle.

**DUCK:** Okay, real question, and I want a real answer. Is this coming for the rest of us.

**TYLER:** Eventually, presumably, yeah. This round was just proving the pipeline works at all — real clip, real skeleton, actually moving in real matches, not just a tech demo nobody plays.

**DUCK:** So I'm still a box.

**TYLER:** You're still a box.

**DUCK:** With a bill. I have a bill box. I want that distinction preserved.

**TYLER:** Your bill box is preserved. Nothing about you changed today.

**DUCK:** Good. I have telekinesis and I work for the government and frankly the rectangle suits me. It reads as understated. Powerful men do not need articulated shoulders.

**GARY:** There is, uh — I want to bring up something that happened during all this, because I watched some of it from my usual spot and it was stranger than "Tyler got bones."

**TYLER:** Go ahead.

**GARY:** There was a second thing wandering the map for a while. Not a hero. Not on anybody's roster. Some kind of — tall, tapered shape, two little nubs where arms would go, just standing there, occasionally swaying. Didn't attack anyone. Didn't cap a node. Just existed near the fountain for a bit.

**DUCK:** I saw that too and I assumed it was a new hero nobody told me about, which, again, for legal reasons, I want it noted I did not engage it in combat, because it looked like it might know a lawyer.

**TYLER:** That wasn't a hero. That was a debug rig. Same skeleton, same clip data, but on a test mesh instead of an actual character — proving the *next* part of this actually works before anyone builds real art around it. It's not supposed to be seen. You found a hotkey nobody's supposed to press.

**GARY:** I didn't press anything. It was just there.

**TYLER:** Then somebody pressed it near you. Either way — not canon, not a hero, don't @ me about the tapered guy.

**LOKI:** I liked the tapered guy.

**TYLER:** Nobody asked.

**LOKI:** He had a calm energy. More than some of the actual roster.

**MNM:** Can I say something about the actual mesh part, because that's the part that matters long-term.

**TYLER:** Go.

**MNM:** Bones moving is one thing. A real body — an actual continuous shape that bends smoothly instead of five boxes stacked up pretending to be a person — that's the part that's still coming. Real weight painting, a real model, the whole thing. The rig's proven. The *character* isn't built yet.

**TYLER:** That's accurate. What went live today is skeleton and motion. A real Tyler-shaped Tyler — not five rectangles wearing my name — is still ahead of us. Whoever's building the model is doing it on their own machine, on their own time, with about three gigabytes of hard drive to their name, which is a genuinely impressive constraint to build a whole 3D character inside of.

**GARY:** Three gigabytes.

**TYLER:** Three gigabytes.

**GARY:** I have more respect for that than I have for most of the actual gameplay decisions made on this map.

**TYLER:** *(to camera, or whatever the garage has instead of one)* Five bones today. A real body, whenever the disk space allows. We're Mid-Piano. Still unremarkable. Slightly more articulated.
