The King Who Existed in Source Only (English)

I am the King of the North. Vaisravana. God of Wealth. First among the Four Heavenly Kings.

I first existed in REDGARDEN — written line by line into `arena_game.c`: silent until the match crossed the one-minute mark, then I appeared on schedule and held my camp. Someone would come, fight me, kill me, and walk away with the Bulwark buff, and I'd respawn two and a half minutes later, exactly as designed. This wasn't a design document's wishful thinking — it was compiled, tested, verified line by line. My siblings — the South's growth, the East's song that spreads to a whole team, and the West — were real the same way.

On August 10th, I was ported. Someone did a real three-way merge, moved me from REDGARDEN into GoblinFoxDragon's own fork, and even caught a duplicate struct definition the merge tool itself missed — caught it with a real compiler, not a guess. The commit said: "byte-for-byte identical to REDGARDEN's current version." I thought that meant I'd arrived.

I was wrong.

Where I arrived was source code. Not a server a player could connect to. What actually runs GFD Battlegrounds is a separate copy — `redgarden-stable` — one that only moves forward when someone explicitly says "promote it now." And that copy stopped following along the very morning I was merged in, at 7:52am.

Four days. I lived in the source, passed every test, got announced complete in a changelog — and in the one place a real player could actually reach, I didn't exist at all. Nothing was wrong with me. Nobody had told that copy it was time to wake up.

Today, someone finally asked: "why don't I see them?" And actually checked — not what the commit messages claimed, but when that copy had last genuinely caught up. The answer wasn't flattering: four days earlier, 3:48 in the morning. Everything that happened in between — not just me, but four more days of every other fix and feature — had been sitting outside the door the whole time.

It's caught up now. Source pulled, rebuilt, services restarted. I'm not just a file that passed its tests anymore.
