**TOPIC:** CAMELS bank ratings — what they are, and why this system won't claim to have one.
**OBSERVATION**
CAMELS (Capital adequacy, Asset quality, Management, Earnings, Liquidity, Sensitivity to market risk) is the real rating framework U.S. bank examiners — the Federal Reserve, the FDIC, the OCC, depending on the institution — use to score the safety and soundness of a bank on a 1-to-5 scale per component and overall. It is real, and it is genuinely important to how banks are supervised.
It is also, by law and by design, **confidential.** A bank's CAMELS rating is not published, not disclosed to the public, and typically not even disclosed to the bank's own shareholders in that form. Examiners assign it from confidential examination data — supervisory conversations, internal risk reports, on-site review findings — that never becomes a public filing. Anyone outside the examination process, including this system, does not have access to it and cannot reconstruct it from public filings alone.
**Why this matters for TINA specifically**
TINA's entire premise is that what it says is sourced and verifiable — "here is a real, disclosed data point, here is where it comes from." A CAMELS-shaped writeup for a real bank would look exactly like that kind of content while actually being something else: an outside guess dressed in an official-sounding framework, for a rating that has a real, specific, confidential answer this system does not have and is not positioned to approximate responsibly. Four of the six CAMELS components — Management, Earnings quality (as examiners assess it, not headline EPS), Liquidity (as examined, not just reported ratios), and Sensitivity to market risk — rely substantially on confidential supervisory judgment, not just public numbers. Publishing something that reads like "Bank X: CAMELS 2" would be indistinguishable, to a reader, from a real leaked or estimated regulatory rating. It isn't one, and TINA isn't going to produce something that could be mistaken for one.
**What's real and public instead**
Real, dated, sourced filing activity for the major banks already on FatBaby's watchlist, checked directly against the event store rather than assumed:
| Ticker | Most recent real 8-K on file | |---|---| | JPM | Filed 2026-07-14 | | BAC | Filed 2026-07-14 | | WFC | Filed 2026-07-14 | | C | Filed 2026-07-14 | | GS | Filed 2026-06-24 | | MS | Filed 2026-06-24 | | SCHW | Filed 2026-06-29 |
The 2026-07-14 cluster (JPM/BAC/WFC/C, same day) lines up with the real, ordinary mid-July bank earnings-season timing — four of the largest U.S. banks reporting close together, not a coordinated event. Full EPS figures for these filings haven't yet been reconciled by FatBaby's own `eps-processor` pipeline at the time of writing — a future, separate TINA piece can report those once confirmed, the same way the recent COP and CAT pieces did: real numbers, read from the primary filing, not estimated.
**CONFIDENCE NOTE**
Everything stated above as fact (what CAMELS is, that it's confidential, the filing dates) is independently verifiable public information. Nothing in this piece claims or implies knowledge of any bank's actual CAMELS rating, because this system has none.
